Case Study

40 Percival Street, Islington – reclad

London EC1V

The project was a reclad of a 7-storey residential building at 40 Percival Street, Clerkenwell, for housing association, The Guinness Partnership.

A20 carried out a full design service and undertook the replacement of the façade including SFS, CP board, insulation, cladding support and multi-coloured, anodised aluminium rainscreen and fire barrier package.

The Percival Street façade is the largest and most brightly coloured. The Malta Street façade is clad in a range of grey shades and there is also a rear façade.

ROOFF

The project has proved much more challenging than anybody could have imagined at the start of the works.

However A2O have worked alongside Rooff to overcome all the hurdles that we faced.

Also it was very pleasant to work with  A2O as a team, which generally these days is a rare thing.

In short I would highly recommend A2O for any future projects and I look forward to working with them in the future.

Challenges

There were no as-built drawings of the existing building available to work from.

The existing external cladding was found to have been supported from combustible timber panels.

The design and install required multiple bespoke corner pieces.

Solutions

A20 arranged a survey of the existing structure to commence the design.

A20 installed new non-combustible SFS and sheathing board to support the cladding.

The A20 Design Team held back on ordering the corner pieces until the majority of the install was complete, allowing for accurate site measurements.
