Winchester Sports Park open for business

Winchester Sports & Leisure Park has just opened and looks stunning.

The £37m centre for Winchester City Council, Hampshire County Council, Winchester University and The Pinder Trust, was designed by LA Architects and HNW Architects. Willmott Dixon was the main contractor.

The building’s green credential include 400 Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on the roof and contains specialist infrastructure to reduce carbon emissions, improve water efficiency through the use of thermally-efficient solar control glazing, extensive rainwater drainage and biodiversity enhancements.

The A2O scope covered ceramic tiles to the ground floor and dramatic ceramic baguettes over the glazing. Translucent polycarbonate cladding – Danpatherm K7 – to the first floor gym gives diffuse light during the day, and lights up the façade from within at night. The cladding package also covered SFS, subgrid, insulation, fire barriers and louvre doors to the plant area.

A2O’s Apprentice, James Mates, has done a great job as Assistant Site Manager.
